Dear Parents and Guardians,
Good afternoon! Happy Spring!
We would like to congratulate all the parents, grandparents, older brothers, older sisters, cousins, and family friends that have acted as assistant teachers in some way shape or form over the past year! This spring break is just as much yours as it is anyones! THANK YOU! Your efforts are noticed, and appreciated! We have truly had to dig deep as a school, community, Milltown and JK family, and although the challenges will continue, and we will need to further persevere, this moment is one to take for reflection on all we have accomplished!
On behalf of everyone at JK, we hope you all have a wonderful and restful week full of smiles and laughter with your children and loved ones!
Here are a few points to keep in mind as we head into the break:
The next date for in person return is May 3rd, and the final date to inform the office of a May 3rd return is April 28th.
Please review all the previously shared information regarding mandatory remote afternoon instruction in April. The information is attached to this communication and does contain one major change as is stated in bold below. Please keep in mind that we will continue with an early release on site, and then a virtual afternoon beginning at 1:30 for the students, and ending at 3 pm.
IMPORTANT NEW APRIL WEDNESDAY INFORMATION
Wednesdays in April will now be on site days for teachers and students. They will run exactly as Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays will with the same early release schedule, and the same mandatory afternoon schedule. The only difference is, being that there is no specific core subject area scheduled for Wednesday afternoons in April, those afternoons will be earmarked for additional teacher office hours as well as additional individual student/teacher meetings regarding academic action plans previously developed in tandem by the students and teachers.
In addition to the news about Wednesdays now being on site days for teachers and students, Dr. Brown's recent communication also included the news that in order to provide further safeguards after spring recess, students that are currently attending in person learning will have the option to attend remotely without any attendance penalty from 4/6/2021 to 4/15/2021. All in person learners would be expected in person on Friday April 16th.
Should you wish to keep your in person learner at home on remote learning, please fill out this Google form indicating a remote start date of April 6th, and then what date your child will be returning.
Please understand that this window exists through the 15th and all in person learners are expected back in school on Friday April 16th. Please also understand that this option only begins on April 6th. We cannot have in person learner in school for example on April 6th, 7th, and 8th, and then request to be remote on the 9th and 12th.
Again, if you wish to exercise this option, please complete this survey no later than Friday, April 2nd.
Please review the previously shared information that has been attached to this communication with the updated information regarding Wednesdays in April Do not hesitate to reach out with any questions. April will be busy, but very enriching!
As shared earlier in the week, we are happy to welcome Mr. Thomas Tate to the JK family as our new school nurse! Mr. Tate will be training with Nurse Conger who will remain available through the duration of the school year. Welcome Nurse Tate, and we wish Nurse Conger all the best!
Please be advised that Peer Tutoring is now available at JK! Please inquire with Ms. Dysart for more details.
When dropping students off in the morning, please be sure to drop your child off, and then move along on West Church St. If you'd like to see your children into the building, please park in the library lot and walk across. We wind up with traffic and ultimately safety issues if cars are idling along West Church St. during drop off.
(You know things are beginning to get back to normal when you hear a drop off/pick up message from me!)
We look forward to April, the spring months, and to spending more time with your children. As I said, while the work may be just beginning, it is important to take this time to celebrate the hard work you, and your children have done! Enjoy the week! Well deserved!
Be well,
Mr. Veit
