Dear Parents and Guardians,
Good morning! We hope this finds you all well! After last night's BOE meeting we definitely have reason to be excited! Our patience and perseverance is paying off as we now have a clear roadmap that includes a return to a full schedule and many opportunities for us to utilize our time to address identified student deficits as we head to the summer!
Attached are specifics related to Joyce Kilmer from the plan shared by Dr. Brown at last night's BOE meeting. The first document entitled "Rest of the Year Roadmap" breaks down the months of March and April and highlights the cumulative changes by week/month on our way to May. The second document is entitled ``Afternoon Class Schedule for April 6th - 30th," and it details the 4 weeks of April where we begin mandatory afternoon assignments on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, as well as remote Wednesdays which will be run on a full day length schedule.
The month of April is the most busy portion of the plan as we will look to really begin to use our time to address identified student academic challenges and to get our full day legs back underneath us!
Tomorrow (Wednesday) you will receive a link to a video Mrs. Citro and I will be producing that will detail the next few months and address any questions and concerns you may have. In the video we will share the attached documents again as a reference as well as a calendar and other handouts that will assist in organizing the next few months with your children.
As it relates to notification for opting into in person learning, please note that in order to return to in person learning in March, please notify the JK main office by this Thursday, February 25th. After that, the next time to opt into in person learning, will be no later than March 24th for an April 6th start, and after that, April 30th for a May start. You are still able to opt your child out of in person learning at any time by contacting the main office.
As I stated in Friday's parent communication, for the last year, these plans have been, and remain under constant evaluation and adjustment based on feedback, stakeholder needs, the latest safety information, and our own scrutiny and assessment. As evidenced by last night's BOE meeting, feelings are understandably very strong all around, no matter what your family's needs are, or what your thoughts on reopening are. The only constant during this process, aside from differing needs and opinions, is that there has been no singular plan that has fully addressed the individual needs of all involved, and there is no one plan that comes without indirect and unintended effects and consequences. That being said, those involved in creating this, and all the previous plans, have always considered the children first and those aforementioned needs. We will continue to do so as we move forward.
With that, I want to congratulate you all on making it to this point! It has been no easy task for any of us, and it is important to take a moment to celebrate this news with your children no matter if you are deciding to have your children come back in person or not. This news is a reason for hope and optimism! It is also important to note that by no means are we letting up on our attention to safety! With increased movement and student integration safety remains a top priority, and your continued assistance and attention to safety guidelines will be a great help in keeping the school open and running on the current plan!
Thank you all again for your continued support and we look forward to the coming months!
Be well,
Mr. Veit
