Weekly Update from Mr. Veit

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Good afternoon! We hope everyone is healthy, well, and remaining vigilant as we continue to work as a community during these unprecedented times! Below are some notes from the week.

1. We would like to congratulate the 2020 National Junior Society inductees! This past Wednesday, Senorita Metz and myself were honored to conduct our first ever virtual induction ceremony where we honored the academic achievement and community service efforts of our 8th grade NJHS students. These young men and women exemplify the pillars of the program and act as outstanding role models for their classmates and examples of the best parts of our community.

2. With the recent addition of 1 to 1 and/or small group opportunities and additional teacher office hours on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons, we are looking to provide additional academic and social emotional support for our students. As I mentioned on Tuesday, your child's teachers should have by now provided you, and your children a schedule of these activities that will remain fluid based on current needs. Also, as per Tuesday's communication, additional afternoon special area classes have also been added for each day of the week. The sessions take place from 1:30 to 2:00 pm and 2:15 to 3:00 pm. Information related to this can be found on the school website.

3. Please be mindful that the school is staffed differently due to the current closure, so please be sure to call the school office with any questions or concerns, and should you not happen to speak with anyone live, please leave a detailed message, so your concerns may be directed and addressed by the proper staff member. We are discouraging "drop ins" as much as possible keeping health and safety in mind.

4. The previously discussed "Santa and Mrs. Claus Drive Around" originally slated for sometime during the week of the 21st will unfortunately be canceled. We are currently working on a replacement activity to celebrate the holidays for that week. Stay tuned!

5. Today, the 8th graders took part in their annual and traditional JEOPARDY game! The game will be viewed by the students later this month before winter recess. All involved had an excellent time. A huge thank you goes out to Ms. DeFalco, all the special area teachers, and any staff who assisted with JEOPARDY.

We hope everyone has a safe, fun weekend!

Be well,
Mr. Veit
