Weekly Update from Mr. Veit

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Good afternoon! We hope the Christmas trees are up, the Menorahs are displayed, and all the celebratory holiday decorations have been pulled down from the attic, or up from the basement as December is in full swing! No amount of stress or concern should take away from that December feeling we all remember having as children! While we continue to need to remain vigilant and safe, it is comforting to know we have the support of one another, and our Joyce Kilmer family!

Some notes form this week:

1. Thank you to those who participated in the Honor Roll celebrations this past Thursday and Friday. As Mrs. Citro and I said, it is an amazing accomplishment to achieve honor roll at any time, but it's particularly special this go around, considering the circumstances. Thank you to the hard working students, and especially the hard working parents that assist while also working their own jobs each and every day!

2. We are looking forward to inducting this year's chapter of the National Junior Honor Society this Wednesday in yet another virtual celebration! This year's class of 8th grade student leaders has worked so hard, and are so deserving of this honor. We cannot wait to celebrate their accomplishment!

3. One week from today, the 8th grade students will participate in the annual JEOPARDY game! This tradition dates back many years, and despite the need to modify the game, we expect the same energy, comradery, and school spirit we usually see, as the 8th graders test their knowledge, cooperation, and problem solving skills! This year we will also pay tribute to the real life host of the Jeopardy game show, Mr. Alex Trebek. A wonderful example of work ethic, perseverance, and class, Mr. Trebek showed qualities that we should all cultivate in ourselves, especially as we work through the challenges we are all sharing.

4. We have received many inquiries about how to get holiday gifts to your child's teacher(s). If you have gifts that you'd like to get to your child's teacher prior to the holiday, please drop them off at the Joyce Kilmer main entrance, in the boxes located under the tent, between either the hours of 10am and 11am. or between 1pm and 2 pm during the week of December 14th (December 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th). While we cannot guarantee the packages will get to the teachers before the holiday, we will store them in the All Purpose Room for the teachers to retrieve when in school. We ask that you please CLEARLY label the teacher the gift is for so that we have no confusion, or homeless gifts! Please also know that you have the option to hold any gifts until such time as we have returned to school so the students can give them to their teachers in person.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone, and thank you for your continued support!

Be well,
Mr. Veit
